This blog that I linked was my best blog that exemplifies my ability to analyze my independent reading novel. " It was about a boy named Louis Zamperini. At the beginning of the book it shows how he had a bad childhood getting himself into bad situations with drugs.  It then all turns around when he gets into running track." This quote shows how I efficiently analyzed complex characters in the book Unbroken. At the beginning of the quote I told the reader that he was a bad kid in his child hood. Then I tell the reader that is turns around because of track. Later on in the blog I talk about all his experience that made him a great person. "Unbroken has tought me so much about courage, how to never let someone break you, and how you should always forgive someone for what they have done no matter how bad it is." In this quote from my blog I talk about how the them has impacted me and what the story showed me. These are just two of the many examples of how I have thoroughly analyzed my independent reading novel.

I have finished the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It was a great book. It was about a boy named Louis Zamperini. At the beginning of the book it shows how he had a bad childhood getting himself into bad situations with drugs.  It then all turns around when he gets into running track. In high school he sets records and is so good he goes to the Olympics. At the Olympics he set a record for fastest time on the last 400 meters of the race that he ran. He became very well know across the world. After the Olympics Louis goes into the Army during WWII. His plane makes it back to base but one doesn't.  So him and his crew that he is apart of searches for them in an old raggedy plane. The plane goes down and Louis is one of three  survivors. They are out in the ocean for a long time. One of the two dies. The two survivors wash up on Japanese soil. They are taken in as prisoners of war and are treated very harshly by the Japanese. The Prison camp is lead by a cruel man that is known as the bird he treats Louis and the other very badly, especially Louis because he is a famous Olympic athlete. After all the hard work in these camps the United States finally wins the war. Louis was never broken in the camps he was tough and never let the Japanese get the best of him, he survived. When Louis was stranded in the middle of the ocean a dangerous storm hit them. During the storm Louis said that he would dedicate his life to God if he survived this. Well, he survived and and when the war was over Louis reached out to the man that abused him during his time in the camp, the bird. Louis wanted to talk to him peacefully. The bird declined the offer.
Unbroken has tought me so much about courage, how to never let someone break you, and how you should always forgive someone for what they have done no matter how bad it is. I thank Laura Hillenbrand for that. This was one of the best books I have ever read. I couldn't take my eyes out of it, I read it very fast because of this.

I am currently reading Unbroken  By Laura Hillenbrand. So far I have learned about how the main character's (Louis Zamperini) childhood. He is a young boy who doesn't really know his place in society. He drinks alcohol beverages and smokes cigarettes. On top of being to young to do those things, he is getting into trouble with the police and is fighting kids too. His mom cares so much for him. His mother is a Spanish speaking lady who is a great cook and a great mom. Louis, was a talented boy. Hes fast. Running from all his troubles made him a fast runner. It also created a toughness that set him apart from the rest. Since I have seen the movie I've seen that when the other competitors are tired and worn down he is just getting started. He pushes harder and runs faster than anyone who is running. Louis's brother saw how fast his brother and he persuaded him to try out for the track team. The thing that made me laugh was when he tried out for the team he was the only one who wasn't wearing track shoes with spikes. He made the team.
I like this book so far. It has shown to me that everyone has talents. You need to use them for good not for bad. Louis at first started using his speed to run from the police. Now he is using it for track and to achieve things. Its different than other books. Usually, it takes a while for me to get into books, but Unbroken is intrusting from the beginning in how they show his struggles through his childhood. So far this is been better than the movie and one of the best books I have read lately.Image result for Unbroken movie child

The book that I picked for independent reading is Unbroken By Laura Hillenbrand. I picked this book because I watched the movie and I really enjoyed it. It was a movie about a boy who was in the Olympics and then he had to go to war. His plane crashed and he and the pilot survived. They were captured by the Japanese navy. He was treated terribly in Japanese prison camps. Finally, the war was over and he was sent home. His life was troubling when he got home because of his flashbacks. As you can see the movie was amazing. I liked it so much I bought the book and am ready to read it. I know that the book version is usually better than the movie so I'm extra excited to read it. But I don't really know if it can be any better than the movie, it was pretty special

This is an Example of Horatian Satire. The author of this picture is trying to get a smile from the audience by making fun of airports and all of the security. Mark Parisi is making fun of airport security by pretending that it is also a basketball game, you can travel in basketball games. This satire really connected to me because I play basketball and I also travel a lot.

The author that I chose was Mike Lupica. A quote from his column NY Giants must look at season as a whole and not just focus on finish, that shows his opinion on the subject is, " When they still had a season ,they couldn't beat a good team. The seven losses in a row didn't happen to somebody else." This quote shows his opinion on how the Giants season went, he thought it wasn't very good because they lost a lot of games. Another line that showed the authors opinion is ,"A fellow Giants fan said to me, "Another step in the wrong direction." This is were Mike Lupica used a quote to help support his opinion on how the season went. The last quote is from another column, Knicks' plan still hard to buy after trading J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert. The last quote that shows Mike Lupicas opinion is,"There is still no way to know if Fisher can coach at this level, the way there is way to know if Jackson can build a successful basketball team." This quote is saying that it is too early to tell if Jackson is a good manager and if FIsher is a good coach.
The author uses rhetoric in his Columns. One example from his column: NY Giants must look at season as a whole and not just focus on finish is," Have they had an unusual amount of injuries? They have." Here is an example that uses rhetoric in which the author uses a rhetorical question and a sentence fragment. An example from another one of his columns, Knicks' plan hard to buy after trading J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert, is, "Now 37 games into a five-year, $124 million contract-" The author is using rhetoric because he is stating stats and numbers which is Logos ( a type of rhetoric).
